As the new year is upon us, people around the country see it as a time to make a change — a change which may involve making big decisions about their homes. As a real estate agent, this is a great time to make some goals for yourself as well. A new year means more predictions and changes in the housing market, and an opportunity to get a head start on work for the upcoming year. Whether these clients will be looking to sell their homes, move into a new place, or purchase an investment property, we need to be ready for them. 

6 Strategies to Appeal to Your Clients’ New Year’s Resolutions 

Here’s how:

1) Stay on Top of Next Year’s Trends 

Forbes states that between September to October of 2022, total existing-home sales dropped 5.9%. This marks the 9nth month in a row of declining sales as interest rates continue to rise. Additionally, inventory has been low with less new homes being built leading to higher competition and some home sales receiving multiple offers.

It’s unclear how long these trends will continue so having a pulse on the market and current events can help you navigate uncertain times. Ultimately, it’s not just about knowing your market trends — it’s about understanding your clients’ desire to make an entire lifestyle change.

2) Get Involved in the Community

Although an internet search might yield a good agent, word-of-mouth and seeing a face around the community are still the most effective ways for people to learn about you. In fact, according to the Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, 42% of buyers and 39% of sellers say that referrals are how they found their agent. This is good news for potential clients out there who are making a goal to shop locally in the upcoming year. So, get involved in the community and make yourself and your company visible. 

3) Tweak Your Advertising

Going off the last point, balance is key here. Next year, don’t be surprised if your client-base is moving to TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, and other social media outlets (if they haven’t already). A report by Contactually stated that 91% of realtors use social media to some extent. And, now more than ever, people first want to see photos (and videos) of the houses they are interested online, before doing anything else. This is the perfect way to cater to all those new work-from-home parents and digital nomads in 2023! 

4) Make Your Company the Trustworthy One

When people look to make such a big decision as buying or selling a home, they need to make sure their agent is reliable. And, people aren’t just looking at whether or not they get a good vibe from you — they want to know if your trust is guaranteed. After all, you can expect that one resolution people will have will be to keep their identities as secure as possible. Taking your cyber security seriously is one of the most important things you can do to bring in new clients next year.

5) Strut Your Stuff

Have you made some major achievements in the last year that you’re proud of? Then don’t be afraid to show it. Potential clients who are looking to have a more positive lifestyle in 2023 need someone who can relate to that attitude and mindset. Don’t hold back when it comes to making news of your successes or highlighting testimonials. 

6) Broaden Your Audience 

As you very well know, we’re in one of the best times to buy a home. And, seeing as that could change very soon, more and more people — including first time home-buyers — are going to want to jump at the opportunity as their New Year’s resolution. We’re talking EVERYONE. Even if you usually cater to one age demographic, make sure you open your arms to clients you don’t normally meet and interests you don’t usually pique.
