How to Go Viral as a Real Estate Agent

If you want to get as many clients as you can as a real estate agent, then it’s necessary to make people aware of who you are.

And, how do you let people know who you are?

Well, there are many ways to make yourself known, but if you want to bring in more leads, then you’re bound to be successful if you manage to go viral.

Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen many agents take their creativity to the next level. Whether it’s agents doing lip syncing videos or dressing up as prehistoric animals, anything that can attract loads of attention is likely to welcome in more clients. But, “Going viral” isn’t really something you can make happen on your own because it has to happen naturally. That being said, there are certainly some things you can do to get noticed.

Do Something Different

In order to go viral as a real estate agent, you’ll have to step out of your comfort zone just a little bit. Most people don’t feel comfortable dressing up in weird costumes, making music videos, or doing anything untraditional, period. But, if you can find a unique way to advertise your listings that’s not too obscure, there’s a good chance that you’ll get the attention you’re looking for, even if it’s just in your own network. Remember that if you can make people laugh or have them connect on an emotional level, they’re more likely to see themselves living in your listing.

Copy Others in Your Own Way

Can’t think of your own ideas? That’s okay. Take inspiration from others and try different ideas until one fits you. If you like what Keller Williams Realty did with their T-Rex costume, then try finding another costume (a shark?) that might do the trick. If you like the video of a realtor doing a cover of a music video combined with their own version of song lyrics, then don’t be afraid to do that either. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel — you just need to get things moving.

Some Ideas to Go Viral

  • Re-enact a scene from an old comedy
  • Cast your children as actors in a commercial-like video of the home
  • Do a parody of a popular hip-hop song
  • Rent out billboards and park benches with funny slogans
  • Stick a “free ____” sign (free pizza) on your sign outside your listing
  • Choose a niche. For instance, clients with pets are likely looking for a home with a yard. So, hire some dogs from the local shelter to star in their own backyard BBQ video.

Let Your Personality Shine Through

No matter which way you choose to go with this, the most important thing you can do is show your true colors. People want to work with agents they can relate to and trust. So, if you’re not the kind of person to dance in a music video, then that’s probably not the “go viral” approach you want. While you’ll need to step out of your comfort zone to an extent, you should make sure that you’re still the same person no matter what medium people are meeting you on.

Stick with a Theme

If you’re new at this, then you might try and go a ton of different directions with your creativity until you decide what works for you. And, that’s okay. But, once you decide on something, try your best to stick to that one thing and perfect it as much as you can. This is because people will start to associate your creativity with you as a realtor, which will make you a bit more “famous” as you continue.

Share, Share, Share

Really, the only way for something to go viral is if it can be seen by loads of people. Therefore, you’ll have to share your creative works on any social media platforms you have. Share in groups you’re in, and even reach out to various websites who share trending content to see if they can share yours, too. Reach out to the local newspaper and send emails out to your past and current clients. And, ask friends and family to share for you as well.

Things to Keep in Mind

Not everyone will go viral after changing up their marketing strategy. But, you will definitely get noticed in your community, which is what matters most. If people can recognize you as a friendly face and associate humor, lightheartedness, and feel-good emotions with you, then they already know who to call when they need an agent to help them buy or sell their home.
