Get Uncomfortable With Where You Are At

So, I have a message that I want to share with real estate agents this week, and that is “get uncomfortable.” I know, I know…it sounds strange, but let me explain.

When you are comfortable in your life, your relationships, or your business, you are doing the things that you already know how to do. You have it figured out, there are no waves rocking any boats… life is good! Or is it?

Getting Uncomfortable

It’s only when you get UNcomfortable in your life that you’re actually growing.

You’re learning a new skill or investing in a new relationship. You’re learning a new way of doing something…a new way of living your life. You are learning about YOU.

You are learning about what works, and what doesn’t work in the relationships you have, or in your business.

Think about a kite. The kite goes higher based on the resistance it finds in the wind. When you have resistance in your life, and when things seem uncomfortable or challenging, it’s because you are rising to a higher level and rising to a new level of person. A knife is only sharpened when it finds friction against something stronger than it. A kite isn’t very pretty on the ground, and a knife isn’t very useful when it’s dull. They both need to be uncomfortable!

Being Patient With Ourselves

For those of you who have children, what do we tell our kids when they are growing up and getting frustrated with something? Whether it’s a math problem, or trouble with a friend at school, or when they aren’t being a good sport about something?

We tell them to be patient and understand that they are learning something new and that doesn’t happen overnight, nor is it always easy. We remind them that this is a GOOD thing and that they will get better at whatever this challenge is only by getting through it. 

We have to have the same love for ourselves that we have for our kids — have the same patience.

As Nietzche said long ago, “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” It’s in the challenges we face in life where we grow as human beings.

This week, I invite you to embrace the uncomfortableness in your life. If things have gotten comfortable for you, I invite you to do something that will make you uncomfortable.
