Business Not Going Well? Try to Amp Up These Qualities and Skills

Haven’t had a lead or closed a deal in a while? Sometimes, that’s just the natural ebb and flow of being in the real estate business. But, then why does it seem like the “big guys” on top never experience slow periods like you do? Are they not revealing this information about themselves, or are they actually that good? Is it them, or is it you? What can you be doing more of in order to bring your business to where it needs to be?

Even if you’ve been in the business for years, it doesn’t hurt to do some self-reflection from time to time and invest in yourself a little bit to get back in the game.

Check Yourself

The first step in amping up your qualities and skills is to, well, take a look in the mirror. Have you honestly been the best version of your real-estate-agent-self that you can be? Maybe you are. But, if there’s even a small part of you that’s not “feeling yourself”, then there’s a way to get you back there.

Maybe you’re conversational skills aren’t quite where they need to be. Or, maybe you feel as though you don’t have those salesmanship skills you used to have. Perhaps you’re just a little rusty.

We all go through these periods because we are human. Start with having a conversation with yourself. What is it that you feel is lacking? This is not the time to beat yourself up about what you should have said the last time you spoke to a lead. Sometimes, you just have to get your “mojo” back. Do something you enjoy, take some time for you to go on a vacation, or even talk to a therapist or a job coach. Give your mind and body what it needs and then bring it all to the table.

Expand Your Network

One of the reasons business could be slow is because you’re not hanging out with the right people. That’s why platforms like Lab Coat Agents exist, to get you connected to those who want you to be successful. If you’re having a hard time, consider expanding your network.

Join groups, attend professional developments, conferences, etc. It’s important to invest in your business, and while it may be hard to justify investing money in something when business is slow, it will only pay off later. So, sign up for that even, join that Facebook group, and talk to others who have connections.

Get Your Technology Skills Up

These days, if real estate agents can’t get with technology, then they may easily fall behind. With more and more companies making it easier for buyers and sellers complete transactions all online, agents need to step up. But, it’s not just that. There are excellent apps, websites, tools, and resources that can help you be successful as long as you know how to use them and/or you’re willing to give them a chance.

Not everyone is tech-savvy, and that’s okay. What’s not okay is that you wait back on the sidelines while the rest of the world is adapting. Take a class, sign up for a course, or ask a younger family member to show you the ropes. But, whatever you do, don’t continue to make excuses for why you’re avoiding getting with the times. Realtor.com has plenty of technology courses that you can sign up for.

Monitor Your Productivity

Finally, the best way to amp up your skills is to just push yourself a little bit harder. Monitor your productivity and check to see how much actual work you’re putting in. If you’re one of those people that shuts their phone off at 5 PM, you might be missing out on important leads. We’re not saying that you have to put in overtime all the time. But, part of being a real estate agent involves running your own business. If you’re not there, the business doesn’t run, because you are the business. A coffee shop that closes at 5 PM doesn’t make money after 5 PM.

According to Nick Baldwin, co-founder of LCA,

“When someone comes to me and gives me all the reasons they CAN’T do something, it means to me they WON’T. So, let’s be real and honest with yourself. Say you WON’T and it flips everything around…

You won’t go that extra mile and put in the work. Don’t say you can’t because that’s a lie.

I have heard every reason in the book as to why one person is successful and another isn’t, and there is only one factor that separates those people from each other:

One of them decided to SHOW UP and the other didn’t.”

If things aren’t looking too hot right now, try applying these strategies and see if you can bump up your game!
